Geminid Meteors and Star Trails
Nathan traveled to an area near Presidio, Texas, in winter to shoot the Geminids meteor shower. He used a custom panoramic system that was aimed straight up at the night sky to capture these magnificent star trails. The shooting stars you see punctuating the gentle curves of the star trails are from meteors that emanate from a single point in Gemini. Because this point rose and set as the night went on and the earth continued to rotate, the streaks appear at random angles, seemingly chasing each other across the night sky. Shot over two nights, this image is comprised of over 12,000 stacked frames.
