Rubus
Most people, even raspberry lovers, don’t realize that the fruit is covered with very fine hairs, which were once the flower’s pistil. The delicate hairs, a surprising feature for such a thorny plant, are clearly visible in this magnified image. The pink, red hue of these berries is just one of a range of colors produced by members of the Rubus genus. Yellowish-white albino varieties are widely available, as are purple hybrids.
