Sabering champagne requires a confident hand—the bottle will not yield to a timid stroke of the sword. The technique originated during the French Revolution, when Napoleon’s soldiers would open bottles of champagne with their swords after battle. Nathan modernized the technique by building a custom robot from a linear actuator to help him control the timing of when the bottle is severed.
