Feather Heart
Taken on the Galápagos Islands, this photograph is of an adolescent Nazca booby as its flight feathers begin to emerge. They are born with a white down-style coat, and their darker flight feathers come in as they age. While they may breed on land, the birds’ movements are notoriously clumsy, so much so that their name is derived from the Spanish word bobo, which means “foolish or clown-like.”
